Nova Scotia Rare Bird Alert
A juvenile Cattle Egret visited Chris and Linda Masland, Beach Meadows, Queens County for several days last week, feasting on grasshoppers in a field adjacent to their condominium apartment. Chris and Linda hosted several interested birders including Dave Davies of Liverpool. There have been no other recent sightings.
Interested birders in Nova Scotia are encouraged to add their sightings of rare birds to Speaker's Corner when ever they like. If anyone has any suggestions as to how we might improve or facilitate such a service for birders in the province, please send your comments to: info@outdoorns.com.

White-eyed Vireo October 27
Wood Thrush October 27
House Wren October 29
She also had a Northern Mockingbird at Broad Cove on October 28. I've seen this bird up until yesterday, when it was joined by a second. The first bird is defending it's territory in a barberry bush, and both birds are very vocal. |

Joan Czapalay reports:
Yesterday Lillian Perry and I had great looks at the Little Green Heron at the Hawk Guzzle (thanks to Murray's patience). Failed to find the L.B. Dowitcher and the Clay-coloured Sparrow; lots of Yellow rumped Warblers (I guessed 60 plus) on Kenny Road. A probable Orange crowned and a mystery warbler amongst them and the Chicadees. We saw a N.Mockingbird near the old resevoir Road South Side CSI late afternoon. Also one in Shelburne near the Irving station corner near dark. |

Steve Shaw, Chocolate Lake reports:
We had a male of this inexplicably-named woodpecker visit one of our seed/peanut butter trays briefly on Sunday, for the first time. Though I'm a rank amateur at identification, using Peterson and Sibley guides this was
clear ID of a male bird seen for a short time before it lost a battle with an aggressive blue jay and flew off to a local white pine. We regularly have visits from Downies and less regularly Hairies and Flickers at suet logs, but I've never seen this species before here. |

At the feeders we now have 8 Dickcissels and 2 I. Buntings mixed in with the other 14 species of more common stuff.
A Winter Wren is located on "The Hill" across from the Town Office (~100-125 yards for me) it has been scolding Terri almost daily as she walks by going to and returning from work. There's also a few other I. Buntings in the same area along with a (f) B. Grosbeak. These birds have been present for over 2 weeks now in and around the same location! |

Scott Ritchie, Centrelea. I saw a flock of very white birds at a distance the other day, assumed them to be seagulls. The following day I saw a bird that I would call an Egret, which type I am not sure. First time I have see this beautiful bird. My best guess would be a Cattle Egret. It was on a neihbors front lawn. |
