The story is of Robin Hood's lost sister and her battle for survival in the evil times of Prince John. Her original crusade to save herself quickly transcends itself from a battle for personal safety to one which is more altruistic in scope - that of championing the causes of the peasants surprised and tormented by  the wrath of infamous Prince John. This transition causes the narrative to embody the traditional Robin Hood themes while weaving a bold, creative tale of adventure and excitement with Lilly as the hero instigating the action.

Lilly, having lost her memory after her accidental separation from her family, is unaware that Robin is her brother. Robin, is unaware that he is sharing the  forest with another outlaw. What happens when the two eventually come face to face is masterfully crafted - especially for an author of Christina Gunn's experience. Gunn expertly develops Lilly  from a scrawny determined tomboy into a powerful, commanding woman. This evolution is achieved with a sensitivity and insight that belies the author's 16 years.

Illustrator Raymond Pierce was obviously as engrossed and enthralled by the tale as I, as his drawings capture not only the essence of Lilly but reflect the thrill of the adventure. It is as if Pierce spirited away my imagination and laid it bare on paper!

Lilly is original, creative and a 'must read' for all adventure lovers. Christina Gunn has skillfully created another whimsical dimension to this time honoured tale that is rich in fantasy without  infringing upon the integrity of the original Robin Hood.
