Andrew Named to
Olympic Team!
January 12th, 1998 Halifax, N.S. - Snowboarder Trevor Andrew of Falmouth, Nova Scotia will represent Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. The 18-year-old was named to Canada's first ever Olympic Snowboarding Team by the Canadian Snowboarding Federation last weekend. A place on the team was virtually ensured for Andrew after a dazzling, come-from-behind, display of aerial acrobatics late last week in Calgary. The young snowboarder placed fifth, first and second respectively, at three Olympic qualifying competitions. Andrew will compete in the Half Pipe competition at the Winter Olympics, which are scheduled to begin in early February. Andrew is the only Nova Scotia athlete going to the Olympic Games and is one of the youngest competitors. Steve Fairbairn, president of the Nova Scotia Snowboarding Association suggested the selection of Andrew was "fantastic for snowboarding in Nova Scotia. It gives every young snowboarder in the province something to shoot for and shows that riders from Nova Scotia can compete at the international level."
