The dogs in the opening scenes of Jack London's, White Fang, mysteriously disappeared one by one as they pulled a sled and three men across frozen and white tundra. The novel captivated readers with its descriptive scenes of dog sledding and fired the imaginations of contemporaries who believe dogs and sleds are just as appropriate in places besides the frozen north.

Enter Ski Martock. A resort that knows how to use snow to its best advantage, it offers annual dog sled racing events and ground for daily sledding for those non-competitive types. Last year, approximately 200 people spent the day viewing the races. This year, teams will be pounding snow on Feb. 3, 2001 and March 3, 2001 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

If you want the best spot to watch the action, consider the starting point. Dog teams are welcome everyday from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. The only exception is Sunday.
